For people who don't have cars, you can get to the village of Llantwit Major via train or bus and it's about a couple of miles to the beach - easily walkable. But the road is narrow with no sympathy for pedestrians. There is a lovely footpath running along the valley, parallel to the road. From the village, you turn right onto the footpath from just outside the village. It's not particularly well sign-posted - doesn't say that you can get to the sea that way, for example. From the sea end, you walk through the camp-site to get to the start of the path.
